From August 17th to 28th 2019, Geneva has the privilege of hosting CoP18 of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). This Convention ensures that international trade in animals and plants does not threaten species.
At Starling Hotel Geneva we are convinced that these themes are everyone’s business and that through our choices and actions we can actively participate in the protection of our global environment and more specifically in the protection of species.
The restaurants of the Starling Hotel Geneva are labeled GRTA: Geneva Région Terre Avenir GRTAis a trade mark created in 2004 by the State of Geneva. This label makes it possible to identify agricultural products from the Geneva region. GRTA is based on 4 founding principles:
The quality of the products by the respect of the environment and the refusal of the genetically modified plants and animals
Proximity: 100% of the products are from Geneva
Traceability, which makes it possible to control the production chain and to bring visibility from the field to the plate
Fairness, which guarantees fair working conditions, respect for collective agreements and a correct income for the farmers.
MIP restaurants, is located in the heart of the international organizations, in the building of the CICG labeled by the green fork and aims to get the label Homemade in 2019.
L’olivo restaurant is 1st restaurant in Switzerland to offer a menu “Less saves the planet”, an ethical and responsible menu, allowing gourmets to discover new flavors while neutralizing their ecological footprints.
The hotel is committed to reducing food waste : between 2016 and
30.06.2018, the rate of food waste per customer decreased by 19.5%.
All employees and customers are invited to sort the waste: this awareness
allows the Starling Hotel Geneva to recycle nearly 64% of its waste.
100% of the waste is recovered, either in agricultural recycling (compost),
material recovery or energy recovery (electricity production by the combustion
of waste in the canton of Geneva).
