BEE Starling !

The Starling Hotel Geneva raised this question and is pleased to announce the arrival of 180,000 new foraging employees!

BEE Ecological

Since 2009, the Starling Hotel Geneva is committed in a continuous improvement in the environment, supported by the Environmental & Energy Committee (CEE), which is composed by 12 dynamic and passionate delegates. In 2016, Starling’s employees have decided to give a new boost to the environmental goals and have decided to install and take care of 3 beehives!

This ambitious project is built up around the CEE core values: passion, excellence, professionalism and environmental awareness.

Welcoming these bees demonstrates the culture and philosophy of the hotel team, which is firmly anchored on the preservation and the reduction of the impact of operations on the environment.
Bees are vital to preserve the balance of the ecosystem as they are considered as ecological sentinels.

Bees are amongst the hardest working creatures on the planet and because of their laborious work ethic; they pollinate up to 80% of vegetables and fruits.

When Starling’s employees decide to undertake their ecological commitment, they do it with enthusiasm! The world of bees is fascinating but at the same time is very demanding.

Therefore, in order to look after the beehives and to follow the growth of the colony, the CEE decided to set up a “beekeeper team”. 3 key persons are in charge:

Claire, from the Housekeeping department

Frédéric, from the F&B Service department

Pierre, from the Food Production department

BEE Professional

Our 3 beekeepers follow regularly the professional trainings of the Geneva Beekeeper Association. This is the occasion for them to ensure a professional support to the bees.

After having developed theoretical aspects, it is time to put things into practice!

We are proud to announce the arrival of our 3 swarms and their 180’000 bees on 20th of April 2016. In order to maintain the tranquillity of our new guests, beehives have been installed behind the Zurich conference room, in front of the rape field in blossom.

Bees love linden tree flowers: a linden tree has been planted near the beehives and allows the bees to forage their favourite meal in complete peace.
